Steps

  • Step 1
Copying as a way of learning art has been practiced throughout history. Study works by famous artists, then print a color copy of a famous painting on a sheet of 8-1/2 x 11" paper. Tape a sheet of 8-1/2 x 11" Grafix clear film on top of the image.
  • Step 2
Using an ultra fine Sharpie marker, trace the important elements of the painting. Your tracing doesn't have to be exact, it can be your own interpretation of the painting. Photocopy the finished tracing onto white paper.
  • Step 3
Explore the original artist's style, use of color and brush strokes. Color your tracing with crayons, markers, colored pencils, oil pastels or any medium you wish.
