Use a papier mache mask and peacock feathers to make your own Black Cat Mask.

Steps

  • Step 1
To create ears, cut two 3½" long, rounded triangles out of construction paper. Fold one inch of each triangle over and glue to make the ears three-dimensional. Remember to fashion opposite ears for the left and right sides. Position ears on mask and glue.
  • Step 2
First, paint mask black with acrylic, then add details with your favorite colors (yellow, green and blue will highlight the colors of the peacock feathers).
  • Step 3
Each student will need two peacock feathers. With scissors, cut the "eye" off of the top of the feather. Glue onto the brow of the mask, leaving a slight opening for vision.
  • Step 4
Strip the remaining feather strands from the quill to create whiskers. Glue onto mask under the nose. Add sequins with glue to bring your mask to life! Punch holes and string to finish.
  • Optional Tip 1
If wearing mask for extended periods, you may want to cut small nostril holes for easier breathing.
