Jackson Pollock-Inspired Action Painting - Project #31

Create a cool Jackson Pollock inspired abstract painting using string, paint pipettes, paint bellows and liquid watercolors! To see step-by-step instructions, click "Steps" in the blue bar below, or click "View Project PDF" in the gray box. This project also has an instructional video available!

General Materials:
White Sulphite or Construction Paper
Yarn or String cut into 6" lengths

Step 1

Look at various works by the artist Jackson Pollock. He was famous for his action paintings.
Step 2

Step 2

Distribute watercolors into coordinating plastic painting bowls, or use a muffin tin palette. Cut several 6" lengths of yarn, at least one for each different color of paint.
Step 3

Step 3

Dip yarn into watercolor and drag across the paper. Use paint pipettes to drip colors, or bellows to splatter colors, if desired.
Step 4

Step 4

Repeat with as many colors as you want.
Step 5

Step 5

Try using metallic and fluorescent colors, too.
