Glue Stick

Construction Paper Crayons or Oil Pastels
Steps
- Step 1Cut out a 6" triangle from warm brown construction paper; this will be the lion’s face. Draw ears, eyes, a nose and mouth with construction paper crayons or oil pastels. Cut off the bottom tip of the triangle for the chin, draw "fur" and fringe.
- Step 2Cut out an 8" triangle for the lion’s body; the sides can be slightly rounded. Outline the sides with black.
- Step 3Cut a 6 x 1/2" strip of warm brown for the tail. Cut a 1-1/2" tall, 1 x 1/2" trapezoid from black construction paper and fringe the 1" end; glue the 1/2" end to the tail. Cut two 1x3" strips from warm brown paper and fringe for whiskers. Color them white.
- Step 4Cut a 7" diameter circle from dark brown construction paper. Outline the circle with black and cut slits in the edge to create the mane.
- Step 5Cut a sheet of green construction paper into 1x8" strips and taper both ends into leaf shapes. Cut off 3" from each strip; you will now have eight 5" leaves and eight 3" leaves. Use construction paper crayons or oil pastels to add color and dimension to the leaves.
- Step 6Color a white moon on a piece of 9x12" blue construction paper. Glue on the tall leaves; the tops can be left un-glued for dimension.
- Step 7Glue the tail and body on top of the tall leaves.
- Step 8Glue the lion’s mane on top of the body and tail.
- Step 9Bend the ears forward and glue the face to the mane, bending the paper out in the center to give dimension. Glue the whiskers to the cheeks.
- Step 10Glue the short leaves to the foreground, overlapping each other, the mane and other pieces as necessary.
- Optional Tip:Use craft foam instead of construction paper to create your jungle lion.
