Use corrugated board and reed to make these cute baskets! There are options to make one with beads or jute too! This project also has an instructional video available!
Steps
- Step 1Cut corrugated sheets into strips (nine 1½ x 5" strips were used here), in your choice of colors.
- Step 2Cut four pieces of 1/8" reed, each piece should measure approximately 16-1/2" long. Use the corrugated holes to thread the reed, evenly spaced, through eight of the corrugated strips (leave one piece to the side). Note: If the reed is not easy to bend, you may need to soak it in water for 30 minutes before doing this step.
- Step 3Trim each of the ends of reed so that it is only extending 1/2" from the corrugated strip. Apply a small amount of glue to the eight ends of the reed that extend from the corrugated strips and then insert the reed into both sides of the ninth strip to complete the side of the basket shape.
- Step 4One one end, trim the corners from each of the strips. Next bend down the end to form a tab.
- Step 5Using additional corrugated board, cut out a bottom for the basket and glue it to the tabs.
- Optional Tip 1Use scraps of corrugated board or cut out decorations and glue the the basket.
- Optional Tip 2Decorate the basket with jute or cord.
- Optional Tip 3Leave spaces between the corrugated strips and string beads on the reed.
