Create fun butterflies with self-hardening clay, tissue paper and a little paint!


Steps

  • Step 1
    Sculpt body and head out of a 1x4” piece of clay. Indent head for future placement of eyes.
  • Step 2
    Cut 3 stems in half, then fold in half and twist to make heavier legs, push into each side of body. Cut one stem in half and insert both pieces into top of head.

    Step 3
    For wings, push sharpened pencil through the bug body in two places. Let body dry overnight.
  • Step 4
    Paint bug body and head with acrylic. Add glitter accents. Glue one pom on each side of bug head as eyes. Allow bug to dry.
  • Step 5
    Twist tissue and slide one quarter sheet through first hole, repeat with other hole. Untwist and shape ends of wings.
  • Step 6
    Attach poms to ends of stems with glue.

    Optional Tip 1
    Attach each student's project to the ceiling with fish line and a thumb tack. As you add more projects to the ceiling, space them out over the surface of the ceiling to create a garden of beautiful Sparkle Butterflies!
