Jackson Pollock-Inspired Action Painting Project

Paint Pipettes
Bowls
Paint Bellows
Liquid Watercolors
White Sulphite or Construction Paper
Yarn or String cut into 6" lengths

Create a cool Jackson Pollock inspired abstract painting using string, paint pipettes, paint bellows and liquid watercolors! This project also has an instructional video available!


Steps

  • Step 1
    Look at various works by the artist Jackson Pollock. He was famous for his action paintings.
  • Step 2
    Distribute watercolors into coordinating plastic painting bowls, or use a muffin tin palette. Cut several 6" lengths of yarn, at least one for each different color of paint.
  • Step 3
    Dip yarn into watercolor and drag across the paper. Use paint pipettes to drip colors, or bellows to splatter colors, if desired.
  • Step 4
    Repeat with as many colors as you want.
  • Step 5
    Try using metallic, fluorescent, and other types of colors, too.
