Powdered Tempera Experimental Paintings Project

Time: 1 Class Period
Difficulty: Moderate
Cleanup: Soap & Water

Materials:
Chipboard or Cardboard
Powdered Tempera Paint
Water
White Glue
Palette Knife
Plastic Cups or Bowls

Create a drawing with glue - and use powdered tempera to make your own painting!

Steps

  • Step 1
Use white glue to draw a design on a sheet of Grafix Chipboard.
  • Step 2
Sprinkle black powder paint on top of the glue drawing.
  • Step 3
Tap chipboard to remove extra powder paint so that the design can be seen clearly (background may have smudges and be gray in color; this will add visual interest).
  • Step 4
When glue is dry, mix individual colors of powder paint in separate bowls or cups. Add a small amount of water to each bowl to create an impasto paste. Use a palette knife to add the colors to your painting.
