Steps

  • Step 1
Cut a sheet of graph paper into an 8-1/2" square and glue to the back of a sheet of construction paper.

  • Step 2
Cut off the excess construction paper, leaving the graph paper square.
  • Step 3
Cut one 8-1/2" circle out of construction paper. Cut three more circles, each one at least 1" smaller than the previous.
  • Step 4
Center and trace the circles onto the graph paper. Draw dissecting lines, dividing your circles into 12-16 equal sections and creating guidelines for the design.

  • Step 5
Center and glue the circles onto the construction paper side of the paper. See our YouTube video for tips for easy centering.

  • Step 6
Poke holes through the paper where the dissecting lines and circles meet.

  • Step 7
Using colored pencils to match the colors of your craft thread, draw your mandala design on the graph paper, using the guidelines for reference.

  • Step 8
Select a color of craft thread matching one of the pencil lines and begin sewing the design, using the colored guidelines.

  • Step 9
Repeat until all colors have been stitched onto the paper, creating a mandala.

  • Optional Tip
    Experiment with different color combinations.
