Steps

  • Step 1
Cut out 10-14 building shapes from corrugated sheet; the buildings should be approximately 3-1/2" tall but can have various widths and roof angles. Arrange the first layer (5-7 buildings) on a piece of 8-1/2 x 11" black card stock, about 3" above the bottom of the paper. Leave some space in between the buildings, and glue the first layer to the card stock to create the night skyline.
  • Step 2
Add a second layer of buildings, overlapping the shapes to create depth. If you have building shapes left over, add a third layer.
  • Step 3
Cut 4 or 5 more building shapes that are about 1" taller. Glue them to the previous layers to create a dark alley in the foreground. Stack smaller pieces of corrugated board behind the larger buildings as needed to make them pop out, adding depth to the foreground. Glue on roofs, chimneys, fire escapes and doors.
  • Step 4
Cut out a 1-1/2" x 5" triangle and a 1-1/2" circle from corrugated board. Design a super hero beacon and draw it on the circle.
  • Step 5
Glue the triangle and super hero beacon above the city skyline. Draw windows and details with a fine point black marker. Be sure to make the windows on the background layers smaller than the windows on the foreground layer. Add details such as bricks, stones, steps and more.
