Important Information for Indiana Tax Exempt Customers

Approved Vendors List

If your school or district buys educational materials exclusively from an Approved Vendor List and you are not sure if United Art & Education is an Approved Vendor, please take a moment to tell us about it by clicking here.  We'll do our best to apply to your list.

Future Orders

Place orders when you’re ready, we’ll ship them when you’re ready! As soon as you know what you want, or have a PO approved, go ahead and place the order. You can tell us a future ship date when you will be available to receive it. When your requested ship date arrives, we will pack and ship your order that same day. You should expect an invoice shortly after your shipment is sent.

Special Charges

In the extremely rare event that an order requires extra fees, we reserve the right to add on an appropriate service charge. Should this occur, we will notify you and will not process your order without your approval.

General Shipping Information

Currently we ship Internet orders only within the contiguous US. No international deliveries are available, nor are we able to ship to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico. Shipment is dock to dock. Most smaller orders will be shipped via FedEx Ground. If your order must ship to a P.O. Box, APO, or FPO, actual shipping charges will be added to your order, including Priority Mail postage, insurance, and delivery confirmation (this is an estimated 20% of your order). Larger orders containing heavy items will usually be shipped via truck freight. If you have a large order and require FedEx delivery, and it is more expensive than truck freight, you will need to pay the difference. Special handling, such as a lift gate or inside delivery, is available at your expense.

All Ground and Express delivery services will be delivered without signature. Delivery Signature service is available upon request for an additional fee.

Regardless of shipping method, most items ship from our warehouse within 48 (business) hours of the time your order has been placed. If you have chosen standard shipping, our preferred carrier is FedEx Ground. Most packages are delivered within six business days from the time your order has left our warehouse. Express delivery approximations are estimated from the time your merchandise leaves our warehouse. Please note that FedEx standard ground and express delivery is not available on weekends (except some residential areas) or observed holidays; however, upon request, Saturday delivery may be available for an extra fee.

All express and freight ship charges are subject to review. We reserve the right to correct any Express or Freight ship charges billed on orders and will notify the customer in the event a correction is necessary

Special Order Items
Special order items take longer to ship than regular items. Special order items arrive in 2-6 weeks from the date of your order, depending on the item. For specific delivery information refer to the product details or call 1-800-322-3247.

Who Can Receive FREE Shipping?
When your order of qualifying items equals $99 or more after any discounts are applied, we will pay delivery charges for your online order. Items that do not qualify are explained below. Orders will be shipped via our preferred carrier (usually FedEx Ground or truck freight). If you choose to have delivery from a carrier other than our preferred carrier, you must pay any increased shipping charges. Free delivery is not available outside the contiguous United States.

What are my delivery costs if my order does not qualify for Free Shipping?
The delivery costs that you will be billed are indicated at the time of checkout. In the extremely rare event that an order requires extra fees, we reserve the right to add an appropriate service charge. Should this occur, we will notify you and will not process your order without your approval.

Furniture and other items that do not Qualify for Free Shipping:
Free shipping does not apply to most oversized items or to items that are shipped directly from the manufacturer. These items are clearly indicated on our website. Items that must ship truck freight usually cannot be delivered to a residential address. Minimum freight rates range from $70.00 to $110.00. Your freight cost for these items will be indicated as you place your order. Examples of these types of items are listed below.

  • Kilns and Potters' Wheels
  • Reams of 24x36" Paper
  • Marker Boards, Bulletin Boards and Chalkboards
  • Printing Presses
  • Metal Racks
  • Tables
  • Other items that are shipped directly from the manufacturer

Actual shipping charges are billed for all orders west of the Rocky Mountains (AZ, CA, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, WY).

Our Products

United Art and Education is extremely concerned about the safe use of our products, especially among children. We have attempted not only to identify items that are safe for use by children, but also to highlight those that should not be used without supervision, or by children under 3 years of age. Products that have not been properly labeled as non-toxic should not be used in the presence of children or in environments with persons who are unable to understand safety labeling information.

ACMI Certification of Products
Products bearing any of these labels have had a toxicological evaluation by a medical expert and have been reviewed by The Arts and Creative Materials Institute (ACMI) Toxicological Advisory Board. These products are certified by ACMI to be labeled in accordance with the chronic hazard labeling standard, ASTM D4236 and Federal law, P.L. 100-695.

For more information on the testing of products, contact ACMI at (781) 556-1044 or visit their website.

For more information on the safety of products we carry, call our customer service department at 800-322-3247 or contact us with your request.

Health & Safety Labels

AP Seal, non-toxic
Products bearing the AP Approved Products Seal are certified by the Art & Craft Materials Institute (ACMI) to contain no materials in sufficient quantities to be toxic or injurious to humans or to cause chronic or acute health problems. These products are safe to use in the classroom, even with young children.

CL - Cautionary Label, Not Recommended for use with Children
Products bearing the CL Cautionary Label Seal have health warnings associated with them and are not recommended for use around young children. These products should be used with caution and adult supervision is recommended.

PMA Approved
Products bearing the PMA Approved Seal are certified by the Pencil Makers Association (PMA) and will be identified by that seal. This seal indicates that the products do not contain any materials which cause acute or chronic health hazards.

Proposition 65
According to California Proposition 65 regulation, products containing one or more of the following chemicals must display this warning: unbound Titanium Dioxide and/or Lithium Carbonate; Silica, crystalline (airborne particles of respirable size); Cumene; Ceramic fibers (airborne particles of respirable size); Lead; Formaldehyde (gas); Mineral Oil; Methanol. These are all chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and/or birth defects or other reproductive problems. In addition, drilling, sawing, sanding or machining wood products can expose you to wood dust, a substance known to the State of California to cause cancer. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov

Conforms to ASTM D4236
Products that carry this statement conform to the labeling standards of the Hazardous Art Materials Act. If the product is non-toxic, then no warning needs to be included on the label. However, if the product is found to carry acute or chronic health hazards, the information on the label must alert the consumer to those hazards.

Non-toxic
Many safe products do not carry an AP Seal. These products are identified as non-toxic in our catalog and are properly labeled. They can be safely used in any classroom setting.

Food Safe Glazes
The term Food Safe should not be confused with Non-toxic, which refers to the product in its unfired state. Food Safe is referring to the fired finish of the glaze and the amount of lead or other heavy metals that are leached when the glaze surface is interrupted. All glazes marked as Food Safe have been found to meet the FDA standards. This does not cover layering glazes, nor does it cover glazes fired above, or below the recommended firing temperature. For this, the customer should be testing their work to ensure food safety.

Choking Hazards
In accordance with the Consumer Products Safety Act of 2008, all toy products must carry a cautionary statement if they are or contain small parts, balloons, balls or marbles. A product exhibiting a cautionary label includes the nature of the hazard and the appropriate user age.
