Use different colors of torn paper to create a Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky inspired Squares with Concentric Circles project! This project also has an instructional video available!

Steps

  • Step 1
Choose 6 different colors of 9x12" construction paper. Tear each piece into six equal rectangles - 36 in all. Each project only uses 3 pieces of each color, so each student can make 2 projects, or the 6 colors can be shared between 2 students.
  • Step 2
Glue six different colored squares onto a white sheet of construction paper.
  • Step 3
Fold each of the 12 remaining rectangles in half and tear into four or five consecutively smaller circles.
  • Step 4
Students should arrange the circles into different color combinations. Set pieces aside.
  • Step 5
Glue the largest circle of each color onto a different color rectangle. The same colors should not be side-by-side.
  • Step 6
Glue down the rest of the circles in your prepared color combinations.
  • Step 7
Finish artwork by layering different colors of oil pastels onto the circles.
